The Reason To Be

一昨日、大叔母が亡くなりました。86歳の天寿を全うと家族は夕べの通夜で家族の挨拶がありました。

Emily Dickinson は、当分取り上げるつもりはなかったのですが、親族の死が続いたので。

Industrious until

The thimble weighed too heavy,
The stitches stopped themselves,
And then ’t was put among the dust
Upon the closet shelves.

A book I have, a friend gave,
Whose pencil, here and there,
Had notched the place that pleased him,—
At rest his fingers are.

Now, when I read, I read not,
For interrupting tears
Obliterate the etchings
Too costly for repairs.


ディキンソンをはじめとする、アメリカの一群の女流詩人は、ちょっと苦手です。
難物です。

あと、アフロ・アメリカンの詩人も。まして、女性のアフロ・アメリカン詩人となると。

お通夜で夕べは疲れました。

色即是空、空即是色、色不異空、空不異色。

生きていることと死ぬことは裏表。死ぬことを知るために生きる。
生きているがため死ぬ。

Harlan Ellison は、「生きるとは、絶えざる死への挑戦だ。」と書いてましたっけ。
